Classic Opel Spares

This is a salvaged accelerator cable for an Opel Manta or Ascona A series. It would be suitable for the UK market right hand drive versions of the following models:

• Opel Manta A 1.6, 1.9
• Opel Ascona A 1.6, 1.9

As can be seen from the attached images the outer casing is in very good condition all clean and shiny.

The inner cable is also in very good condition too; I suspect that it has been repaired, replaced or modified from original. Please note the unorthodox but practical repair to the accelerator pedal fitting. It looks like a self tapping screw set in Araldite or similar two pack adhesive. This isn't a pretty fix, but may well work just as well as original spec.

The last time I checked on the price of replacement Opel Manta A series accelerator cables in Germany they were over £50, at £15 delivered this one is certainly a bargain not to be missed. On offer are 5 pairs of rear wheel brake cylinders suitable for the Opel Ascona, Manta and other rear wheel drive GM models from the 70s and 80s. The printing on the box suggests that they are for the following applications:

• Ascona
• Manta
• Rekord

They are specified as being 19 mm diameter units, a size which would have been common place on many C.I.H. engine equipped GM models. The equivalent Opel part number is stated as 550066.

On offer is a set of front brake pads suitable for the; Opel Manta A, Opel Kadett C, Vauxhall Chevette and many other GM vehicles, some of which use them for the rear brakes.

The Opel catalogue number is 1 171 1051 and the part number is 2797962. These are genuine OEM quality AC Delco parts; unlike the modern equivalent, these pads have a softer compound which provides great stopping power and doesn't wear your brake discs out so rapidly. After many miles of testing, I can confirm that their average lifespan will be around 25,000 miles for a manual transmission car, when used for regular suburban driving.

This is a useful kit of parts when installing new disc brake pads to the front calipers. The kit comprises 4 replacement mounting pins and 2 cruciform retaining clips.

It would be suitable for the following applications:

This is an unusual and quite rare head gasket for the earliest type of Opel / Vauxhall cam in head (C.I.H.) engine. Unlike the later engines they lack the additional two small bolts that mate the front of the cylinder head to the timing case cover. This early engine would most likely have been seen in the; Opel G.T., Rekord C series and possibly the very earliest of Manta A series and Ascona A series cars. It is a pattern part, suitable for the 1897 cc version of the C.I.H. engine only.

Up for sale are some new old stock exhaust gaskets for the Opel / Vauxhall cam in head (C.I.H.) engine. This engine is mostly seen in the Opel G.T., Manta and Ascona cars, but it was also found in variants of the Rekord, Carlton and even some upmarket Kadett models.
These are pattern parts, which I think were sold under the PowerTrain brand name, I have used them on my own vehicles and they performed very well. I have fitted them to the 1897 cc version of the C.I.H. engine, they should also be suitable for the 1584 cc and 1979 cc variants; but not those of higher capacity like the 2.2 and 2.4, which have a slightly different port spacing.
